Am I Suitable?

Take the Arthrosamid® Suitability Assessment

Answer eight short questions on the dedicated assessment page to organise the information relevant to your consultation. The questionnaire is a decision aid and does not diagnose knee pain or confirm treatment suitability.

Arthrosamid cost in the UK explained

Arthrosamid is a polyacrylamide hydrogel imported from Denmark under prescription. The product itself is a substantial component of the price. The package also covers assessment, ultrasound-guided delivery, sterile preparation, the documented antibiotic protocol and post-procedure management. Ultrasound supports real-time visualisation but does not guarantee placement or outcome.

At London Cartilage Clinic the procedure is delivered by Professor Paul YF Lee. The price covers the consultation on the day, ultrasound, the product, the protocol, and a six-week follow-up. MRI is separate when updated cross-sectional imaging is clinically required.

Comparing Arthrosamid® Clinics

Questions to ask before comparing Arthrosamid® prices

A cheaper headline price often reflects what is not included. Use these questions when comparing UK clinics on Arthrosamid® cost — the answers tell you more than the price itself.

  • Is the injection delivered under real-time ultrasound guidance?

Ultrasound lets the clinician visualise the joint and needle in real time. It supports delivery but does not guarantee placement, safety or outcome.
  • Who performs the injection — and is it the same clinician as the consultation?

A consultant-led pathway where the consulting clinician also injects gives you a single point of accountability. A consultation/inject hand-off is cheaper to staff but is not the same service.
  • What infection-prevention protocol is used?

Joint infection is a serious potential complication. Ask what antibiotic and sterile-field protocol is used, how warning symptoms are explained and how urgent concerns are handled.
  • Are IV antibiotics included in the headline price?

Some clinics quote a base injection fee and add antibiotic cover, MRI or follow-up later. Ask for the all-in cost in writing before deciding.
  • How many Arthrosamid® injections has the clinician performed?

Ask how any activity number is defined, verified and dated. Published evidence and transparent outcomes are more useful than an unsupported round total.
  • What is included if symptoms flare after treatment?

Out-of-hours support, follow-up appointments and a clear escalation pathway should be part of the package, not extras quoted later.
  • What clinical follow-up is included as standard?

A six-week clinical review is the minimum we would recommend. Cheaper packages sometimes skip follow-up entirely or quote it separately.
  • How does the clinic decide who is not suitable for Arthrosamid®?

Assessment should cover the diagnosis, imaging, contraindications, alternatives and situations where a surgical opinion may be more appropriate. A questionnaire cannot establish suitability on its own.

Why Arthrosamid at London Cartilage Clinic

  • Consultant-led pathway

Professor Lee reviews the diagnosis and imaging and performs the procedure when it is appropriate. His personal credentials and publications are attributed through the visible reviewed-by link rather than unsupported provider-ranking claims.
  • A protocol, not a product

The package covers the treatment pathway around the product: selection, ultrasound guidance, sterile preparation, antibiotic cover, written aftercare and follow-up. These steps support care but cannot guarantee an outcome.
  • Long-acting, not regenerative

Arthrosamid is honestly described as a cushion, not a cure. Where you have arthritis and want symptom management without surgery, it may be one option to discuss. Arthrosamid does not regenerate cartilage or prove that replacement will be delayed. Alternatives are compared after imaging and assessment.
  • Patients we treat

We treat recreational runners and walkers, people who want lasting symptom control without surgery, and patients who have been told a knee replacement is the only option and want a second opinion before agreeing to it.

Funding, insurance and payment

Self-pay

£3,000, £5,500 or £8,000 depending on the number of boxes used. Settled by bank transfer or card before the procedure.

We can discuss finance options on request rather than promoting a specific finance partner.

Private medical insurance

London Cartilage Clinic is a private-pay practice and does not work with UK insurance panels. Arthrosamid is not routinely available through NHS pathways. Insurance depends on the individual policy and written pre-authorisation.

We can provide an itemised invoice for you to submit to your insurer if you wish to claim, but the agreement is between you and your insurer.

International patients

Many of our Arthrosamid patients travel from outside the UK. We can coordinate consultation, imaging and treatment into a focused visit; travel and accommodation are arranged separately.

Outcomes after Arthrosamid

Arthrosamid is intended for symptomatic adult knee osteoarthritis. The London Cartilage Clinic/MSK Doctors observational cohort reports group-level pain and function outcomes through 24 months. With no randomised control group, it cannot prove causation or predict the response or duration for an individual.

Arthrosamid is not a cure, does not regenerate cartilage and has not been proved to delay knee replacement. A surgical assessment may be more appropriate for advanced disease, deformity or substantial functional loss.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Arthrosamid cost in the UK?

Arthrosamid at London Cartilage Clinic costs £3,000 for one box, £5,500 for two, or £8,000 for three, all inclusive of consultation, ultrasound, the product itself, antibiotic cover, the procedure and follow-up.

How many boxes will I need?

The required knee volume cannot be inferred from symptoms alone. Professor Lee confirms the number of boxes after clinical assessment and imaging review.

Can I claim Arthrosamid on private medical insurance?

London Cartilage Clinic does not contract with UK PMI panels. Arthrosamid is not routinely guaranteed to be covered. Obtain written pre-authorisation from your insurer; London Cartilage Clinic can provide an itemised invoice for an independent claim.

Does the price include ultrasound and the product?

Yes. Ultrasound, the Arthrosamid product, and the injection are all included. The published fifteen-step protocol that surrounds the injection is also included.

Is this Arthrosamid price for a knee injection?

Yes. Arthrosamid's intended use is symptomatic knee osteoarthritis in adults. London Cartilage Clinic does not use this cost page to promote off-label treatment of other joints.

How long does Arthrosamid last?

The observational cohort reports group-level outcomes through 24 months. That follow-up period is not a guarantee that an individual will respond or that benefit will last for a particular time.

How does Arthrosamid compare to ChondroFiller, knee replacement or steroid injections?

These treatments have different indications, evidence, risks and recovery. Arthrosamid is intended for knee osteoarthritis symptom management; it does not regenerate cartilage or substitute for replacement where surgery is clinically appropriate. The dedicated comparison pages explain the decision in detail.

Why is Arthrosamid priced where it is?

The product itself is imported under prescription from Denmark and is the largest single component of the price. The remainder reflects ultrasound, the published fifteen-step protocol, and Professor Lee’s time on the day and at follow-up.

Can I pay in instalments?

We can discuss finance options on request. The treatment is also straightforward to settle by bank transfer or card before the procedure.

Is the clinician I see at consultation the same one who injects?

Yes. Professor Paul YF Lee delivers Arthrosamid treatment at London Cartilage Clinic. There is no transfer to a less experienced clinician between consultation and procedure.

Where will the procedure happen?

The consultation and the injection both take place at our 66 Harley Street clinic in central London. Arthrosamid is an outpatient procedure; no hospital admission is required.
